Compare DNS Providers

Compare top DNS providers side by side including features, pricing, performance benchmarks, and reliability for DNS hosting services.

ReviewMyDNS is a free DNS propagation checker that queries 50+ global DNS servers to verify your DNS records. Check A, AAAA, MX, CNAME, TXT, NS, and SOA records instantly.

Why DNS Provider Responses Differ

Public DNS resolvers including Google (8.8.8.8), Cloudflare (1.1.1.1), OpenDNS, and your ISP's default resolver don't always return identical answers for the same domain at the same moment. Differences arise from cache state, anycast routing, and refresh timing — each resolver independently caches records for the duration of the TTL and re-queries the authoritative nameserver only when that cache expires.

During the propagation window after a DNS change, comparing provider responses shows exactly which resolvers have picked up the new record and which are still serving cached data. Outside of propagation events, persistent differences between providers can indicate misconfigured authoritative nameservers, split-horizon DNS configurations, or geographically targeted DNS responses.

What the Comparison Tool Shows

  • Resolved value per provider: The IP address, hostname, or TXT string each resolver is currently returning for your domain.
  • Consistency check: Whether all queried providers are returning the same answer or diverging.
  • Response time: How quickly each provider responds — useful for evaluating DNS provider performance.
  • TTL remaining: How long each provider will serve its current cached value before re-querying.

When to Use Provider Comparison

  • During a DNS migration to track which major resolvers have propagated the new record values.
  • When some users report they can reach your site and others cannot — they may be hitting different resolvers returning different answers.
  • When verifying that a specific major resolver (Google, Cloudflare, etc.) has expired its cache and is returning your updated record.
  • When evaluating DNS hosting providers for performance — compare authoritative response latencies to identify the fastest option for your primary audience geography.

Interpreting Inconsistent Results

If two providers return different answers and you have not recently changed any DNS records, the discrepancy may indicate a problem with your authoritative nameserver configuration rather than a propagation lag. Check your zone file for conflicting record entries, or use the propagation checker to query your authoritative nameservers directly.
